15 Non-Compliant Sex Offender Registrants Issued Arrest Warrants

Fifteen arrest warrants were issued last week for non-compliant sex offenders in Lake County.

The sex offenders, who reside in the suburbs of northern Illinois, have failed to follow the rules for registering with the police. In many cases, the offenders are wanted to failure to appear because they did not physically show up to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for their required registry date. In other cases, the sex offenders are wanted for escape.

Who Shoplifts? How Does This Help My Defense Strategy?

Do you remember being a teenager, shopping in a department store with your friends and being followed around by employees? Maybe you were accused of stealing or asked to leave.

This interaction is not uncommon, and has negative consequences for both customers and the store. Customers who are stereotyped as shoplifters are often discouraged from shopping at the store again – it’s not fun to be labeled as a criminal because of your age or appearance.

Moreover, the [...]

What Happens If You are Convicted of a Felony in Illinois

A felony conviction is a serious matter everywhere in the United States, but in Illinois our lawmakers take felonies particularly seriously. Classified as Class X, 1, 2, 3, or 4 offenses, felonies here are punishable by state prison sentences that can last decades, fines up to $25,000, and restitution that has to be paid to victims.

And the penalties don’t stop after you have served your time and are allowed back into the real world. A felony conviction [...]

Illinois Has One of the Lowest Felony Theft Thresholds in the U.S.

If you are convicted of theft of over $300 in our state, you will be convicted of a Class 4 felony.

That’s right – $300 is all it takes. And a Class 4 felony isn’t anything to sneeze at, either. Penalties can include one to three years in prison.

And if you are incarcerated (Class 4 felons in Illinois spend, on average, 7 months in prison), you will arrive to an overcrowded prison, where around 40% of your [...]

Public Outing of DUI Defendants Latest Shameful Tactic

Driving under the influence is dangerous to drivers, passengers, and other vehicles on the road. This is irrefutable.

In an effort to keep their roads safe, states use different strategies and tactics to prevent DUI fatalities. While a driver may be charged with a DUI, however, it does not necessarily mean they are guilty of a crime – they have to be convicted first. “Innocent until proven guilty” is a cornerstone of our judicial process.

Illinois’s latest tactic [...]

Illinois Robbery vs. Burglary Charges: Understanding the Legal Differences and Penalties

Burglary | Robbery

While robbery and burglary are sometimes mentioned together, they are distinct offenses under Illinois law, each carrying serious criminal penalties and long-term consequences. Both involve property or theft-related conduct, but the key difference lies in how and where the crime occurs. However, both are felony offenses that can result in years in prison, substantial fines, and a permanent criminal record. At the Law Offices of Andrew Weisberg, our Chicago Illinois defense lawyers can represent you if you are facing robbery [...]

When Chicago Police Violate Miranda Rights During Criminal Interrogations

Miranda Rights

When Chicago police question you without reading your Miranda rights, any statements you make could potentially be suppressed in court. These constitutional violations happen more often than you might think during criminal interrogations across Cook County.

At the Law Offices of Andrew Weisberg, our Chicago criminal defense attorneys have successfully challenged Miranda violations and protected clients from illegally obtained evidence being used against them.
