Illinois Sex Crimes Can Cost You Your Job

The penalties for sex crimes in our state aren’t just limited to jail time and fines. You may find yourself on the sex offender registry. You could lose the rights that all Illinois felons have taken away. Perhaps worst of all, being convicted of a sex crime – or in some cases even just charged – can cost you your job and eliminate any chance that you might get it back.

To see that this is true, you only [...]

Can Illinois Sex Assault Charges Land You In Prison For Life?

In our state, there are certain crimes that warrant a life sentence. These crimes are considered Class X felonies. The list of Class X felonies is small, and mainly limited to homicide-related crimes.

However, certain sexual assault charges also make the list, such as aggravated criminal sexual assault. This is the charge that a massage therapist in Evanston is currently facing.

Changes May Be Coming to Illinois Sex Offender Laws

Five Illinois child sex offenders are taking a stand against the state’s confusing, vague, and highly restrictive sex offender registry.

In many cases, the offenders are wanted to failure to appear because they did not physically show up to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for their required registry date. In other cases, the sex offenders are wanted for escape.

The Difference Between Criminal Sexual Abuse and Sexual Assault

In Illinois, criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual assault are both felonies. There is a lot of discussion on the difference between the two during sentencing, however, because one is a much higher “level” felony, which generally means more time behind bars.

If you or someone you know is being charged with criminal sexual abuse or criminal

sexual assault, it’s imperative that you know the difference between the two, as well as their respective penalties and sentencing standards.

What is Criminal Trespass Under Illinois Law?

Criminal Trespass

Think you’re not trespassing? Illinois law might say otherwise. It doesn’t take a break-in or a locked gate. Just being in the wrong place or staying too long can lead to criminal charges. Maybe you thought you had permission. Maybe you didn’t realize it was off-limits. Either way, a trespass charge is serious. It can follow you for years and show up on background checks.

That’s why it’s smart to call the Law Offices of Andrew Weisberg, a seasoned Chicago, [...]
