Overdoses Lead to Crackdown on Heroin Trafficking in Chicago

According to authorities, a deadly batch of heroin has swept through the West Side of Chicago.

Recently there were 23 reported overdoses in Chicago within the same 24 hour period. After 72 hours, that number had jumped to 74.

Police say that many of the users allege that they obtained the heroin from the same two sources. Because of this, they suspect that a single batch is responsible for all of these drug overdoses.

New Illinois Laws to Fight Heroin and Prescription Opioid Crimes

As our state continues to battle with its growing heroin and prescription pill abuse problems, Illinois lawmakers are scrambling for solutions.

According to reporters from the Chicago Tribune, heroin fatalities have skyrocketed in the last four years. Last year alone, more than 633 people died from heroin overdose in Illinois. In both the 2010 and 2014 reports, Chicago officers from Homan Square arrested two suspects for possession of marijuana, and then proceeded to detain them for hours without record of [...]

As Cook County State Attorney Anita Alvarez explained to reporters from the Chicago Tribune, “what we are currently doing here in Cook County in handling our low-level drug cases is simply not working”.

In an effort to find a more productive approach [...]

It’s All Too Easy for Young People to Get Into Drugs

While adolescent drug use is certainly not a new phenomenon, it does seem that the trend has been picking up steam in recent years. With shows like Breaking Bad and Weeds reaching such remarkable levels of popularity, it appears as though illicit drug use is becoming more widely acceptable among the public, especially among young people.

However, in Chicago, drug crimes are still taken very seriously. Possession of any illicit substance by a minor will not be tolerated. If [...]

Illinois Robbery vs. Burglary Charges: Understanding the Legal Differences and Penalties

Burglary | Robbery

While robbery and burglary are sometimes mentioned together, they are distinct offenses under Illinois law, each carrying serious criminal penalties and long-term consequences. However, both are felony offenses that can result in years in prison, substantial fines, and a permanent criminal record. At the Law Offices of Andrew Weisberg, our Chicago Illinois defense lawyers can represent you if you are facing robbery [...]

When Chicago Police Violate Miranda Rights During Criminal Interrogations

Miranda Rights

When Chicago police question you without reading your Miranda rights, any statements you make could potentially be suppressed in court. These constitutional violations happen more often than you might think during criminal interrogations across Cook County.
